The Old Gnome

The gnome is called Ferran

Born in Vila-real in 1995. Taught to love games by his grandparents, long before any of them had a printer.

How this started

The games came first. Ferran’s grandparents played with him through long summer afternoons in Vila-real — simpler games than the ones on the shelf today, but the point was never the game. It was the company.

Modern board games arrived later, through friends, and brought a problem with them. The boxes were beautiful and the components were cardboard. A game that takes an hour to teach and three to play would hand you a small grey square and ask you to remember that it meant stone.

So he bought a 3D printer. Almost on impulse, by his own account, and with no plan beyond making a few resource tokens for a game he liked.

What the workshop is now

Everything is printed to order, in a workshop in Vila-real: PLA, checked by hand, packed by the same person who designed it. Nothing is warehoused in bulk and nothing is made offshore.

The design work is the slow part. A resource token has to be readable from across a table, stackable, quick to print, and small enough that a full set fits back inside the original insert. Most prototypes fail on at least one of those. The ones that survive end up in the catalogue.

What we will not pretend

These are unofficial accessories. We are not associated with any publisher, we do not reproduce artwork, and the game components in our photographs belong to the games themselves — they are there so you can judge the scale.

Where a design builds on someone else’s work released under a Creative Commons licence, the original designer is credited on the product page. That is a condition of the licence and it is also just correct.
